Service at Athens Academy

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
-Mahatma Gandhi

The purpose of Athens Academy’s Community Service Program is to promote awareness of needs in the local and larger communities. Service to school, community, nation, and world emphasized by direct contributions of time, personal talents, and resources by students, parents, faculty, and alumni to improve the quality of life for others and the natural environment we share.

Service continues to be widely emphasized within the academic curriculum at Athens Academy. Many faculty members incorporate components of service within the framework of their classes, thus enriching the overall educational experience of their students and allowing them to see firsthand the benefits and needs of service to others.

Since 2005, Upper School students have completed well over 25,000 hours of service. Students have participated in a variety of service opportunities sponsored by the school or many of the clubs affiliated with Athens Academy. This is highlighted by the annual Service Day which sends the entire student body out into the community to perform service on the Friday before Thanksgiving. Students have also helped by raising over $50,000 for various charitable organizations including Relay for Life and Project Pallam.
