Spartan Spotlight: Coach Casey Kane

A native of Benicia, California, Coach Casey Kane played baseball for Solano Community College (CA) before transferring to and graduating from UGA. Coach Kane has been teaching Lower and Middle School physical education since 1997 and also coaches JV/Varsity Baseball and Middle School Basketball. We asked him five questions as part of the Spartan Spotlight:

What do you consider to be unique about Athens Academy?
I've always been so impressed with how well-rounded the students are at Athens Academy and the outstanding student-teacher relationships.

What led you to coaching?
A friend asked me to help him coach football at the YMCA and I immediately fell in love with coaching and working with children.

If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
I would take my wife to France and see all the places where Coach Banks used to play.

Outside of the sport you coach, which Athens Academy alum did you admire and enjoy watching compete?
I always enjoyed watching Elizabeth Guess '03 play basketball. She had such great vision and athleticism. Elizabeth played on a National Championship soccer team at UNC.

What is your favorite book?
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

Thank you, Coach Kane!
