Board of Trustees
James L. "Jimbo" LaBoon, Jr., 2015-2017
Jimbo LaBoon became the chairman of the Board of Trustees in August 2015 and served until the fall of 2017. He has long been associated with Athens Academy as a parent, trustee, and grandparent.
A graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in accounting, Jimbo has had a successful career at Johnson & Johnson, Wilkins Industries (Vice President of Finance), Athens First Bank & Trust (CEO, President, and Chairman of the Board), and Synovus Financial (Regional CEO). He has also served the community as Board Chairman for organizations including Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Georgia, Athens YMCA, Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens Country Club, Athens City Club, Athens Downtown Council, and Athens Symphony. In addition, he has been on the Board of Directors of the University of Georgia Foundation, Athens Academy, the United Way, the Touchdown Club, and Athens Tech Foundation and has been an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Athens.

Athens Academy is an independent, co-educational school for students in K3 through 12th grade, located on a beautiful 152-acre campus in Northeast Georgia. For over 50 years, Athens Academy has pursued its mission of Excellence with Honor through academics, athletics, fine arts, and service and leadership.
